Bring me the head of Betsy DeVos

Betsy DeVos is absolute filth and deserves no recognition. She bought her powerful position in government. Betsy’s donated countless dollars to conservative causes and her only purpose in life is to make life harder for our generation and to maintain unnecessary wealth. She has repeatedly attempted to eliminate borrower protections and has even sided with for-profit colleges. The goal here is to continue the influence of turning America into a debtor’s prison. Her morality is questionable: Is it to Amway? God? Betsy has put in policies used to discriminate against transgender individuals as well as to neglect people with disabilities.

Millennials are broke and burned out. Doing dishes is a chore. Mailing items is a challenge. Let alone trying to save for retirement and basic needs while saddled by loans. We have the most debt of any generation and we can’t quite pull ourselves up by our bootstraps. Whether it’s medical bills, credit card debt, or that goddamn avocado toast we love so much, it’s not so simple. This generation is riddled with debt, with student loans on average of $37,172 with interest rates of 5% or more. It’s tough to get started with the odds stacked against us.

Why aren’t we rioting like the Yellow Vests are in Europe or these Arab Spring protestors in 2011? Are the Baby Boomers’ stereotyping of us justified? Are we lazy and entitled? Is all the strength we have left to write a hashtag? Protest is an effective mean to combat unwanted concepts, laws, and human rights issues. Millennials are rightfully abused yet we don’t know how to organize. Smartphone addiction has connected us but brought us further apart with regard to organizing.

Les Gilets Jaunes successfully forced French President, Emmanuel Macron, to back off of a proposed gas tax increase. The Arab Spring toppled created a similar sort of concept, awakening more of the Middle Eastern youth question their governments. While the #MeToo movement did not have the same levels of civil unrest and violence, it’s worked effectively to discredit sexual predators like Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby. Is there nothing we can do to stop Bad Betsy?

We vote and get more Millennials in power. The geriatric congress is around 59 years old with many high-ranking leaders approaching 80. They’re also insanely rich. While Dianne Feinstein and Nancy Pelosi may have been progressive 40 years ago and while they likely dislike Betsy, their time to shine has come to an end with our generation. The problem with voting is that people don’t read enough. Our generation’s reading comprehension may continue to decline, but with ethical game-changers like Senator Bernie Sanders and Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, the millennials may finally develop a stronger interest in politics and start to advocate for themselves.

Let’s take a more aggressive approach. Can we send Betsy down on a trip to Belize or to the ruins of a Siberian gulag? We’ve got a new school shooting on a weekly basis with kids dying and the frequency is going to continue to increase per economic inequality and uncertainty. More importantly, we can’t seem to target the right people or get those people in power to listen. We don’t appear to have the strength to stop these oligarchical fanatics like Betsy DeVos. Maybe we’re just experiencing catharsis to an overly encumbered generation, but something, anything, must be done to prevent the damage that Betsy DeVos is behind.
